Day 4 of 30 – Cold Turkey, Start or Stop

Are You Going Cold Turkey?

Whenever you say you’re going to start or quit something? I find that people around you will ask, are you going to do that cold Turkey?

Are you just going to quit it? You’re just going to stop it? Just cold Turkey?

And I’m thinking to myself like that’s the only way to do anything that you want to do or that you don’t want to do. If you want to stop something or if you want to start something, you gotta just do it cold Turkey.

You gotta just do it first. You have to make up your mind that you want to do it. The do it or stop it… bc YOU’VE GOT THIS!  

How and Why I Quit Cigarettes!

And I haven’t really told many people this, but I started smoking cigarettes a while ago, like probably four or so years ago. I started smoking cigarettes to maybe just hang out with some people that were smoking whenever they went out to smoke.

And then I would tell myself, oh, I, I only smoke when I drink, but now I don’t drink. So that doesn’t even give me that excuse.

But I started smoking cigarettes just to like hang out and it became an addiction over the years and last year I wanted to stop because it was a gross habit. It was so gross and I really want it to stop. And last year I tried to stop a few times.

I did stop a few times for a few months, but that’s not stopping because if you stop for a few months and then you start back up again because the temptation hits, if you’re tempted by it, then you haven’t stopped.

So now I’m not even close to tempted by cigarettes and so that is why I’m done with them because I don’t want them anymore. I had a mindset shift.

Maybe it’s just giving yourself one hour per day structured for you to focus on your dreams, to focus on the things that you want to do. If you can give yourself at least one hour per day, that adds up to six and a half, 40 hour work weeks over the course of a year, you’re worth it.

00:11​ good morning everyone. It is morning time. I didn’t bring my watch face so it’s like five 10most likely in the morning. Sun Is gonna come up right behind me at I believe five 22 so we’re probably gonna catch it. Catch the sun coming up. I had this crazy dancing sun flare on the video yesterday, especially on the Instagram video that was just bouncing up and down cause the sun came up. So I’ll keep an eye on that. I actually look right into the Lens. I don’t look at myself on the camera on my phone. So I didn’t see the dancing sun flare because I was looking at all you guys instead. But I’m going to pay attention to that this time. So I hope you all having a great morning and just to keep you in the loop. I’ve been doing pretty good but I’ve been thinking about this term cold Turkey.

01:11So whenever you say you’re going to start something, are you going to quit something? find that people around you will ask, are you going to do that cold Turkey? Are you just going to quit it or are you just going to stop it or are you just going to start it? Just cold Turkey? And I’m thinking to myself like that’s the only way todo anything. Let’s the only way to do anything that you want to do or that you don’t want to do. If you want to stop something or if you want to start something, you gotta just do it cold Turkey. You gotta just do it first. You have to make up your mind that you want to do it. And once you make up your mind that you want to do it, maybe you’re going to waffle for a year before you do it.

02:37So now I’m not even close to tempted by cigarettes and so that is why I’m done with them because I don’t want them anymore. I had a mindset shift. I actually had mindset shift the night before high performance academy in September last year was smoking my last organic cigarette, right? The American spirits, I was smoking my last organic cigarette telling myself all of these are better than the other ones and maybe they are in certain cases, but also it’s, there’s no organic smoke plus there’s no FDA regulating organic cigarettes right now. So how honest do they really have to be? Anyways? The day before high performance academy in September, I knew I was going to go see Brendan Burchard and knew that. I was like, oh, he’s probably gonna make me make a decision. And I’m sitting there. My last cigarette I had to go outside, hide it from the people that were in my house and I had to go sit in this little corner, grabbed the cigarette, smoke it by myself, and then I looked at that pack and I’m like, Oh boy, like I’m going to have to stop this like tomorrow because he’s probably going to tell me to make a decision and quint something.

03:41So I crumbled up the pack, threw it down, knew that was going to be my last pack and it has been, and now I don’t even want it because I had a mindset shift that night. And actually that whole weekend, the high performance academy weekend was such high energy level day. Brendan did not even bring up once over the whole weekend, cigarettes, not even one time. It was just something on my heart that needed to do and accomplish and I did it. I just changed my mind. That was the weekend that changed it for me. So now I had to, I don’t have that addiction anymore. So yes, it was cold Turkey, but cold Turkey is the only way to do anything. It’s like this hike. I wasn’t getting any morning exercise and so I said got to start hiking and I felt like the coffee was, I was overdoing it.

04:24I was not being moderate at all with the coffee. And so I, I felt I needed to do both of those things this month. And yeah, it was just straight cold Turkey. Like my body is not ready for working out like this hardcore sprint, like hike in the morning. Every morning I’m tired, I’m getting tired. And so I hike up here full intensity, give you guys this video, get down, upload the video. And today I actually have to get down pretty quick because I have to go to toastmasters. I have toast masters at six o’clock in the morning on Thursdays. So I really enjoy my toastmasters group and I think I could fit everything in. It’s like I can fit most of this stuff in and really want to do, but it really is just cold Turkey. So I want to say to you, are there any things that you want to stop doing right now?

We have to find the worth within ourselves in order to give our [inaudible] selves the time of day. We’ve got to give ourselves the time of day because your dreams are worth it.

05:52You’re incredible. You’re a child of God created for great things and just remember that you have created great things also, and you’ve done incredible things. Just remember a few of those incredible things that you’ve done and you’re passing. What is the quote? Oh boy. Instead of living in your past, live in your imagination, instead of living in your past, live in your creative imagination, let’s start being more present and using the past as a textbook to help propel us forward to the future that you design the person that you want to become and that is possible. We could step into the future of the person that we want to be calm by. Just imagining it right now. If we can’t imagine what we want, we’re not going to get it or we are going to get it. We’re going to get whatever we imagine. And if we imagine that we can’t do it, then we’re not gonna be able to do it.

06:43If we imagine that we can do it, then we’re going to be able to do it. And I want to let you know that you can do it. You’re incredible. So if there’s any thing limiting beliefs that are holding you back right now, I want you to remember that they’re only limiting because you’re imagining that they’re limiting. Choose to change the meaning of these situations and reattach why they are important, what you’ve learned from them. If we can take our past and extract the learning lessons and delete the rest, we’re really going to be able to move forward to our dream. But here’s the other thing. You need to be very specific with what you want. So if you want to quit something cold Turkey, be specific and really you got to change your mind on it. You got to find a way to change your mind and change the desires.Learn to desire something else healthier. That’s why I had to switch. What’s up B.I had to switch coffee with fruit smoothies because I need to do something in the morning and it’s like instead of making coffee, I can do get this beat. Hey Buddy, how you doing? What’s up?

07:51I love nature. Most bees are solitary by the way. They are not honeybees. Most of the bees live by themselves in the ground. And these are awesome. So there’s the sun. It is coming up. We’ll see if I can adjust this. Oh yeah. I don’t know why that makes me so happy. All right everybody. You’re incredible. You’re amazing. And I want to mention a few things. So, uh, yesterday Ian, Ian, you’re awesome dude and miss you man. I hope you’re doing great. Ian Is thinking about cutting coffee because he’s also been doing a pot a day. So if you want to do it, you just gotta doit. Like there is no easing into something like that. It’s not like you’re just gonna like, like decide next month I’m going to stop and then you’re going to stop. It’s like, it’s never going to get to the place where it’s like going to be easier to stop doing something you’re habitually tied to.

08:52So at the time to just start right now, start stopping or do whatever you gotta do is start starting right now. So I love you Ian. You’re awesome dude. Miss you man. Um, let’s see, Chris as mentioned yesterday that there’s a brand of organic decaffeinated coffee called Allegro and it’s, it’s decaffeinated using safe Swiss water method. So that’s kind of interesting. Thanks Chris for that. Um, I might check that out. There’s still antioxidants, but there’s no caffeine. And then Daniel if you’re going to do an early hike with your wife on camelback and you’re eating Moringa and you apologize to yourself daily. So that’s awesome. I just want to remind you to, you know, sometimes we’re sarcastic with ourselves, we joke around with ourselves and that’s okay, but just understand you’re still telling yourself stuff. Just be careful what you say to yourself, even if it’s a joke.

09:47And Roy M. Yeah, Roy, what’s up dude? Roy is a great screenwriter and he’s also a great film maker. So how you doing bro? If you’re doing awesome. And you mentioned that you want to change your, I have twos to I get to choose and that’s a really good idea. That’s a really good thing to do Roy. Um, understand that we get to do the things that we do. And one of the things I’ve also been researching and human needs psychology is we are where we want to be ultimately. So if we want to change the place that we’re in, we need to make a conscious effort to choose what that’s going to be and then build the daily steps and then make our self a priority to take those daily steps to make it happen. So I hope you can make yourself priority today because you’re incredible and you’re worth it. So I love you so much.
